Southwest Ohio Homeschool Band Audition Requirements

There are no audition requirements for the Beginner Band.

Intermediate and Advanced Band Auditions:

All students (including previous members) are required to audition prior to the start of every year. This will ensure that each student is placed in the proper band. The audition date is scheduled for Tuesday, August 26th. Times are available before and after the Informational Band Meeting. Please contact Debbie Kramb via phone 513-673-8962 or email debbiekramb@gmail.com to set-up your audition time. Auditions will take approximately 5-10 minutes. (If you are unable to make it on August 26th, arrangements can be made for a different night).

Below are the audition requirements. Keep in mind that most students should expect to be in the Intermediate Band for 2-3 years. Advanced Band is for experienced high school age students and possibly experienced junior high students. The Director will make sure that each student is placed in the proper band (regardless of which level they choose to audition at).

Intermediate Band Level:
Please come to your audition prepared to do the following…

-Concert Eb scale.  You will be asked to play this scale by memory.
-A prepared piece of music. Please choose and prepare some music that best shows your ability. This can be a solo you have worked on, selection(s) from your Essential Elements Book, or several passages from a piece of band music in the past. This should be at least 16 measures in length.
-Sight Reading. There will be a passage of 8-16 measures for you to take a look at during the audition and then play for the Director.

Advanced Band Level:
Please come to your audition prepared to do the following…

-Concert F scale and Concert D scale.  You will be asked to play one of these scales by memory.
